history

In 1928 the savings bank of the municipalities of the old Westerhof office (founded in 1891) with its seat in Echte and the Sparkasse of the former office of Herzberg (founded in 1855 as Amtssparkasse Herzberg ) based in Herzberg am Harz merged . The resulting newly founded Sparkasse of the former offices of Herzberg and Westerhof (later Sparkasse of the Osterode am Harz district ) was taken over in 1963 by the Osterode am Harz district and renamed the Osterode am Harz district savings bank . However, it remained with the communities around Echte and Herzberg.

As part of the Harz Act , the municipalities of Westerhof and Echte came to the Northeim district in 1972 . Therefore, the Kreissparkasse Osterode am Harz , which only included Herzberg, and the Stadtsparkasse Bad Lauterberg in the Harz region merged . The Harz Act added the communities of Barbis , Bartolfelde and Osterhagen as well as Lonau , Pöhlde , Scharzfeld and Sieber . The Sparkasse was created in the district of Osterode am Harz , based in Herzberg am Harz.

Today's Sparkasse Osterode am Harz was created on July 1, 2005 through a merger with Stadtsparkasse Osterode am Harz , which was founded in 1840.

At the end of 2017, four self-service locations with ATMs in Osterode, Lasfelde, Herzberg and Bad Lauterberg were closed for economic and security reasons. Ten branches and one self-service location remained. On January 1, 2020, the Stadtsparkasse Bad Sachsa merged with the Sparkasse Osterode am Harz. In 2020, the five existing branches in Bad Grund, Barbis, Gittelde, Pöhlde and Wulften are also to be closed. Since July 1, 2020, Sparkasse Osterode am Harz has been operating three joint locations for ATMs in Pöhlde, Barbis and Wulften together with Volksbank im Harz . This cooperation is initially limited to three years and thus prevents these locations from being closed completely.
