The Volksbank im Harz eG is a German regional cooperative bank in Lower Saxony , located in Osterode am Harz in the district of Göttingen .

The purpose of the cooperative is the economic promotion and support of the members . The purpose of the company is to carry out customary and supplementary transactions.

history

The oldest part of Volksbank im Harz eG was the "Privat-Sparkasse"  Lerbach . It emerged in 1820 from the charity fund in Lerbach. This had already been founded in 1770 to support sick or disabled miners or their survivors. In 1900 the private savings bank took on the legal form of a cooperative and was thus generally considered to be the oldest cooperative bank in Germany . In 1987 the cash register - which had only had the suffix “Volksbank” in the company name since 1982 - was incorporated into the Raiffeisenbank Westharz. After that she was part of Volksbank im Harz eG. In 2006 the Lerbach branch was closed.

After the German reunification in 1990, a branch in Thuringia was opened with the Ellrich branch .

The business area of ​​Volksbank im Harz eG today includes the western southern Harz and a small part in the Upper Harz , within the districts of Göttingen , Goslar and Nordhausen .

Volksbank im Harz eG currently has 10 branches and 8 self-service locations with 100 employees.

In addition to the main office in Osterode am Harz , the cooperative also has 13 branches in Badenhausen, Bad Grund , Bad Lauterberg im Harz , Bad Sachsa, Barbis , Clausthal-Zellerfeld , Dorste, Ellrich, Hattorf am Harz , Herzberg am Harz , Pöhlde , Schwiegershausen and Wulften at the Harz .

There are also 4 self-service locations in Altenau , Lautenthal , Sankt Andreasberg and Wildemann , plus some ATMs in local supermarkets in the region.

Since July 1, 2020, Volksbank im Harz has been operating three joint ATM locations in Pöhlde, Barbis and Wulften together with Sparkasse Osterode am Harz . This collaboration is initially limited to three years.

From October 1, 2020, the Badenhausen , Ellrich , Bad Sachsa and Dorste locations will continue to operate as self-service branches with ATMs, account statement printers and mailboxes from Volksbank im Harz.

Commitment in the region

Volksbank im Harz eG supports numerous social and cultural projects in the region through its donation and sponsoring activities . This also includes various sporting events and many local events such as the » OHA City BeachCup«.

Since it opened in 2005, the Harz mountain bike route network has been known as the Volksbank Arena Harz. In the past few years, the Volksbank Arena Harz has established itself as a successful tourist model .

Volksbank innovation award

Five times already, Volksbank im Harz eG and MEKOM regional management jointly praised the Volksbank innovation prize as a future prize for visionary entrepreneurs in the region every two years.

Ideas and developments are checked for inventiveness and chances of success in the categories of industry , trade and services .

The jury of senior experts of the Technical University of Clausthal , entrepreneurs and media experts from the region decided after extensive discussions about the winners, who will receive not only a cash prize but are also involved in other presentation options.
