history
Bartolfelde am Harz was founded around 1200 by Count Heidenreich I of the County of Lutterberg . The place was first called Bardenevelt. The place name contains the basic word field ; the meaning of the determiner is uncertain, however. Possible interpretations are either Bardana meaning swamp , or behind the qualifying expression hides a water body name, maybe the old name of Barbisser creek . Bartolfelde originally belonged to Thuringia.
On April 11, 1945, Bartolfelde was captured by American troops. Refugees and homeless people moved to Bartolfelde and helped rebuild the village together.
On July 1, 1972, Bartolfelde became a district of Bad Lauterberg through the Harz Act .
