St. Michaelis village church

Bockelnhagen is a village in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld . Since December 1, 2011, the formerly independent municipality has been part of the rural municipality of Sonnenstein . Bockelnhagen is one of the few villages in the Eichsfeld district that is not part of the historic Eichsfeld .

location

Bockelnhagen is located in the Weilroder Eller valley in the landscape of the Silkeroder hill country , which is already part of the southern Harz. The village is located about 17 kilometers northeast of Leinefelde-Worbis on state road 1013 not far from the former inner-German border and today's state border with Lower Saxony . The hilly landscape around the place is characterized by numerous mountains, including the Wunderberg (304 m) in the east, the Lower Scherenberg (320 m) in the south and the Schulenberg (301 m) in the west.

history

Bockelnhagen was first mentioned in a document on June 14, 1143. In 1143 Pencesslaus Rieme built the knight's seat in Bockelnhagen in the village, whereupon he and some of his descendants added the name of Bockelnhagen . The branch of his son Goserich, who settled in Esplingerode , took over the local place name. From 1816 to 1944 the place belonged to the administrative district of Erfurt of the Prussian province of Saxony . On December 1, 2011, the community of Bockelnhagen merged with seven other communities of the Eichsfeld-Südharz administrative community to form the rural community of Sonnenstein.

Coat of arms of the von Bockelnhagen

Lords of Bockelnhagen

The noble family von Bockelnhagen began with Pencesslaus Rieme, who settled in Bockelnhagen in the Allerberg court in 1143 and built a noble seat. Some of his descendants named themselves after their ancestors Rieme (Hartmann (1226, 1238) with his sons Barthold and Johann) or Bockelnhagen (Barthold (1230)), while Dietrich (1207), called Goserich in other sources, settled in Esplingerode and founded their own noble family there. Like their tribal relatives, they were connected to the Pöhlde Monastery through donations or sales . The last time a Thilo von Bockelhagen is named in 1313, the inheritance went to the befriended and leaned gentlemen of Minnigerode , who called themselves Von Minnigerode zu Bockelnhagen (1693). The coat of arms shows two upward curved fishing rods on a red background. Immediate descendants of Barthold von Bockelnhagen were probably:

  • Dietrich von Bockelhagen (1263, 1297)
  • Hermann (1267) and Berthold von Bockelhagen (1289, 1298), Berthold was married to Cunigunde and sold or gave away his tithe in Buenrode and Wenigenhagen
  • Thilo (1313), son of Berthold, renounces the tithes of Wenigenhagen to the Pöhlde monastery

Inner German border

Bockelnhagen with its large area was located during the division of Germany in the restricted area and partly in the particularly strictly cordoned off protective strip. Many of the numerous estates and individual farms that existed in Bockelnhagen were demolished in the course of the land reform and border security measures of the GDR :

  • Rittergut (Hohes Haus), owned by the von Minnigerode
  • Manor, as well
  • Rittergut Neuhof, too
  • Wechselhagen farmstead, near the border towards Bartolfelde
  • Vorwerk Kreuzhof, near the border
  • Vorwerk Kuhmord, near the border

coat of arms

Blazon : "In red a slanting silver bar, topped with a slanting blue wavy bar, a silver tower above and a silver fish hook below."

The wave bar stands for the source area of the Weilroder Eller, which belongs to the community corridor . The fishhook goes back to the coat of arms of the Lords of Bockelnhagen who, like all of the members of the Rieme tribe, included it in the coat of arms. The von Rieme were descendants of the von Minnigerode family, who often called themselves von Rieme in the second line . Later on, the branches of the Bockelnhagener line split off from those in front of the Schulenberg , on the Hohenhaus , on the Oberhof , on the Forstmeistershof and at Wollershausen . The coat of arms of the von Bockelnhagen family featured two silver fishing rods with their tips turned up and out and lying on a red background, as well as seven peacock feathers, which crowned a helmet. The stylized tower symbolizes the Allerburg near Bockelnhagen, preserved in its foundation walls.

mayor

The last honorary mayor before the incorporation, Frank Hartmann (SPD), was re-elected on June 6, 2010.
