Kirchdorf deserted area (former church)

The deserted Kirchdorf was a church village in the valley of the Weilroder Eller near Bockelnhagen , Weilrode , Silkerode and Zwinge in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1032, when a Heydenriech belt donated a Hufe land to the Pöhlde monastery . Kirchdorf was the seat of the knight dynasty Meingo de Kirchdorf from 1154 and 1216-1229 by Johannes de Keriodorp, who, as can be seen, gave the village its name. When the place was abandoned is not known, the church was in use until the beginning of the 19th century.

church

The church was consecrated to St. Mary and the mother church for the churches and chapels in the surrounding area. The church also served as a burial place for the lords of the nearby Allerburg . The church was probably dilapidated as early as 1392, because the Counts of Honstein-Lare-Klettenberg promised that after the death of Hans von Bockelnhagen they would give twelve marks to build the church in Kirchdorf.

The style of the remnants of the church that still exists today corresponds to the style of the rebuilt church from 1392. On February 3, 1625, a commission from Braunschweig reported in writing about the intact church. Although the village has long since been abandoned, the church was still used for worship services in 1804. Gravestones and epitaphs are reminiscent of the place of activity of the church.

In 1786 a repair of the church was confirmed. The roof is said to have been badly damaged in 1789. In 1790 the church bells were broken and in 1804 the income and accounting ended. The church was abandoned. The building of the church in Bockelnhagen was supported by the property with the last 213 thalers.

The use of citizens and community members of the neighboring villages and funding from the Eichsfeld district brought the site and the ruins into the public eye. A service was held here on August 16, 1997 .

In the church wall is the tombstone of Heidenreich Rieme (d. 1300), which was found, restored and installed by Jost von Minnigerode around 1539 . Two more tombstones (probably those from Minnigerode) lie in front of the south wall of the church.
