Erich Bartels

Erich Robert Bartels (born February 7, 1891 in Stettin , † September 1, 1961 in Braunschweig ) was a German actor.

Life

Bartels attended grammar school in Berlin and completed an apprenticeship as a businessman. He then attended the Brandenburg Conservatory for Music for two years. Bruno Kittel and Anna Uhlig were among his teachers . Bartels became a theater actor and belonged to the ensemble of the Kasseler Hoftheater, the Königliches Schauspielhaus Berlin and the Berlin Thalia Theater. He was often cast in humorous roles.

Bartels came to film in late 1915, where he starred alongside Henny Porten in The Umbrella with the Swan . Numerous silent films followed, mostly comedies, among others with Ilse Bois and Helene Voss . Bartels made the transition to sound film; Appearances can be traced back to the 1930s.

From 1920 Bartels was married to the operetta singer Käte Mann .
