history
The place Gerode was first mentioned on December 7th, 1124. The original village already had its own church before the Gerode monastery was built in this place . The village then merged into the monastery and disappeared in the 13th century.
The monastery with its own judicial district had an eventful history before it was closed during the ( secularization ) in 1803 . Over the centuries, people have settled here again. The former monastery became a state domain that was leased. In 1946 the state domain was dissolved in the course of the land reform and the property was distributed and transferred to smallholders and resettlers from eastern Germany. The buildings that were not destroyed and survived the war became a children's home , youth workshop and later accommodation for the NVA and then a training center for a large company from Leipzig. In the 1950s, the farmers took the path of collectivizing their farms. The monastery buildings were taken over by a non-profit association for health education and welfare.
