The Villa Puschkinallee 7 is a listed building in the district of Potsdam Nauener suburb .

history

The tower villa in what was then Capellenbergstrasse 5 (later 7) was built in 1873/74 by the master mason Heinrich Zech (1826–1897). He probably designed the building, which was designed as a small rental house. Zech had his residence “Am Canal 21”, but in the summer months he also lived in the house himself from 1891 at the latest. From 1897 to 1910 the property belonged to his widow Sophie Zech, née Voigt.

For the new owner, the Secret Upper Government Council and director of the Prussian Chamber of Accounts, Johann Karl Hommelsheim (1850-1923), it was rebuilt in 1910. Among other things, the architect Rudolf Zahn relocated the entrance door, which was originally on the south side of the stair tower, to the west side.

In the Potsdam address books for 1919 to 1938/39, Fritz Rosenbach (1878–1943), doctor in charge of the surgical department of the city hospitals , is noted as the owner. Around 1933 he had minor renovations carried out and rented three apartments. Rosenbach now lived at Seestrasse 39.

During the GDR era, the villa was owned by the city of Potsdam, was used as a depot by the city museum until 2005 and was offered for sale at the end of 2005.

architecture

The five-axis building is two-story with a flat hipped roof . A two-storey loggia is in front of the front. The facade articulates and adorns horizontal cornices , gable and cornice canopies above the tall rectangular windows, stucco reliefs on the window parapets and a garland frieze as well as a console frieze below the eaves . The stair tower with an open belvedere on the south facade provides access to the house. A former utility wing on the east side stands - following the property line - angled at 25 degrees to the villa. Both buildings are connected by a part of the building with a balcony in front, which has a kind of "joint function".
