Rudolf Zahn

Rudolf Zahn (born April 25, 1875 in Kassel ; † March 10, 1916 in front of Verdun am Toten Mann ) was a German architect .

Life

Rudolf Zahn initially studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1894 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Bonn . He then studied architecture in Karlsruhe, Dresden and Berlin. After completing his studies, he initially worked as an employee “in two important Berlin studios” , namely with Otto March and Ernst von Ihne . In 1902 he started his own business as an architect in Berlin-Charlottenburg .

Zahn was one of the well-known architects of his time. He successfully participated in several architectural competitions.

At the First World War dental attended the militia as a captain. He fell on the Dead Man in 1916 in the fighting off Verdun.

  • 1905: Competition design for the Clausewitz monument in Breslau (awarded 1st prize, not executed)
  • 1905–1906: Residential and commercial building in Berlin-Tiergarten, Potsdamer Straße 116 (original house number 45, with restaurant "Zum Fürsten Bülow"; a listed building)
  • around 1906: The Zahn family is buried in Kassel
  • 1906–1907: House of the Society for Patriotic Culture in Breslau, An der Matthiasunst (based on a winning competition design; used by the Medical Academy Wrocław after 1945)
