The Villa Rumpf at Ludwig-Richter-Straße 17 in Potsdam with gardens, pavilion and street-side fence is located directly on the Holy See . Commissioned by the painter Fritz Rumpf , who moved from Würzburg, the red brick tower villa was built in 1894/95 in the Dutch neo-baroque style. The master mason Emil Lilie carried out the design by the Berlin garden architect Gustav Meyer . The hexagonal garden pavilion was built in 1900 by the master carpenter Ferdinand Krüger with twisted wooden columns that are modeled on the columns of the altar canopy in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. A tower with a bell-shaped hood is located on the lake side and refers to the gatehouses in the New Garden ; the curved gables are similar to those in the Dutch establishment .

The villa remained in the family's possession until 1945. At the end of the Second World War, the villa burned down and was not restored to its original state. The Soviets confiscated the villa and left it to the French Military Liaison Commission (MVM), which moved to Villa Seestrasse 41 . Artists and filmmakers used the ruined apartment. The Potsdam artist Peter Wilde lived in the building until 2000 . At first he lived in an attic room and restored the building piece by piece. A layer of soot had to be removed from all objects, a consequence of the fire in 1945. The artists Alfred Schmidt, Christian Heinze and Manfred Nitsche also lived in the building until they moved out. In 2000 the fashion designer Wolfgang Joop bought the property by foreclosure auction for 4.85 million D-Marks and outbid the prominent bidder, the top model Nadja Auermann . Wolfgang Joop had the villa extensively refurbished and used it as a business premises for his fashion label Wunderkind until 2016 .

The villa is on the list of architectural monuments in Potsdam .
