Villa Rustica (Oberndorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Villa Rustica von Oberndorf is the remains of a Roman villa from the 1st and 2nd centuries near Oberndorf in Bavaria .

The villa on the outskirts of Oberndorf was completely excavated from 1988 to 1989, apart from the cemetery. The individual buildings of the villa were within a fenced area of about four hectares. Various buildings stood here, most of which were used economically. The actual house was in the northeast of the complex and had two corner projections at the front . Its predecessor, made of wood, dates back to the first century, but was expanded in stone in the second century. It had hypocausts and glazed windows. The entrance was decorated with pillars. There was a courtyard at the rear. There was a small bathroom in front of the house. The villa was abandoned in the third century, probably after a German invasion . In a building in front of the villa there was a cellar in which 531 iron and bronze objects were found. These are mostly tools, but also parts of house inventory. The whole area is protected as a ground monument with monument number D-7-7331-0118.
