Villa Rustica (Stadtbergen)

The Villa Rustica von Stadtbergen is the remains of a Roman villa from the 3rd to 4th centuries. Century near Stadtbergen in Bavaria .

The villa, about 4 kilometers from Augsburg , was excavated in 1931. The excavation documentation was lost in 1944, so that very little is known about the villa. Most of the finds made during the excavations are also lost. There were a few more follow-up exams from 1976 to 1981. A plan of the villa has been preserved. There were outbuildings.

The actual villa, which was a suburban villa, was a maximum of 63 meters long and 39 meters wide. The building was completely surrounded by a portico . There were two semicircular corner projections at the front . There were stairs that took up a second floor. A marble column, mosaic stones and marble slabs are known of the furnishings. Individual finds date to the first century. On the basis of comparisons with other floor plans, however, the villa in the plan that has been preserved was probably not built until the 3rd century. It was abandoned at the end of the 4th century.
