Ville Itälä

Ville Itälä (born May 10, 1959 in Luumäki ) is a Finnish EU official and has been Director General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) since August 2018 . He was previously a member of the European Parliament as a politician in the National Collection Party and the European People's Party .

Life

Itälä was elected as a member of the Finnish Parliament for the constituency of Varsinais-Suomi in 1995. From 2000 to 2003 he was Minister of the Interior in the government of Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen . From 2001 to 2004 Itälä was party leader of the conservative National Collection Party . He was replaced in 2004 by Jyrki Katainen in the party chairmanship. Itälä was elected as a member of the European Parliament in 2004 and re-elected in 2009. He has been married to Sari Itälä since 2002.
