Vilniaus gatvė (Kaunas)
Vilniaus gatvė is the oldest street in Lithuania's second largest city, Kaunas . It used to be part of the old road towards the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . The houses were made of wood in the Middle Ages. Only later were buildings made of red bricks. These were built by wealthy citizens. Some of these houses have been preserved to this day. As a pedestrian zone, Vilniaus gatvė forms the main axis of Kaunas Old Town , which leads from Kaunas Town Hall Square to Laisvės alėja .
