The Vinalon plant Sunch'ŏn (비닐론 공장 순천시) is a chemical plant that produces the synthetic fiber Vinalon . It is located in the city Sunch'ŏn in the province of South Pyongan in North Korea .

history

In June 1983 the Labor Party of Korea (PdAK) decided to set up a chemical plant. Construction began in September 1983, but material shortages and financial bottlenecks repeatedly led to construction delays. Later the work had to be stopped completely and could not be continued until 1986. The first construction phase did not go into operation until October 1989, and it was now possible to manufacture up to 50,000 t of synthetic fibers per year. Complete completion was scheduled for Kim Il-sung's birthday on April 15, 1992. Allegedly, due to the economic situation in North Korea , the last work could only be completed after 2000. With China's support, 20,000 were kilowatt paid forming thermal power plant built on the premises. The company has its own rail connection to the network of the Korean State Railways . The 14th Battalion of the Korean People's Army is responsible for the work and reports to the Chemical and Nuclear Defense Department.

Since 1954, Vinalon has been “8. February " produced. The factory is currently the largest chemical plant in North Korea.
