Vinalon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vinalon ( Korean : Vinylon 비닐론 ) vinylal or Juche fiber called, is a synthetic fiber consisting of polyvinyl alcohol is prepared.

Anthracite and limestone are used as raw materials . Vinalon's production begins with the manufacture of carbide from coal and lime. Polyvinyl acetate is made by synthesizing vinyl acetate from carbide (to ethyne ) and then polyvinyl alcohol is extracted by melting polyvinyl acetate in methanol. The Vinalon fiber is obtained through the following additional steps.

Vinalon was developed in 1939 by the Korean scientist Ri Sŭng-ki and the Japanese scientists Ichiro Sakurada and H. Kawakami at the Takatsuki Chemical Research Institute , Osaka Prefecture in Japan . In 1954 production was started on a trial basis in North Korea , and in 1961 the large Vinalon plant “8. February “ in Hamhŭng . Today Vinalon is also produced at the Vinalon Sunch'ŏn plant. A department of the Academy of Sciences in Hamhŭng deals with Vinalon.

Vinalon is used for clothing, but also for ropes and as filling material. The fiber is resistant to heat and chemicals, but it is also stiff, shiny and difficult to dye. Vinalon is not produced outside of Korea.

Quote from Kim Il-sung on Vinalon:

“Vinalon is an excellent chemical fiber that we invented. Vinalon is more durable than cotton . The basic raw materials for Vinalon are limestone and anthracite, which our land is rich in. These extremely useful and valuable natural resources are really precious treasures for us. "
