The publishing house for foreign language literature in Pyongyang publishes certain publications in several languages for foreign countries.
Publications
The publications include political literature (especially works and biographies of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as well as texts from the Labor Party of Korea ), books and brochures on Korean culture, economy and society, translations of Korean fiction and legal texts. It is currently published in eight languages: English , French , Spanish , German , Russian , Chinese , Japanese and Arabic .
The publisher also publishes a weekly newspaper and four magazines in several languages:
- The Pyongyang Times (P'yŏngyang Taimsŭ) (in English, in French only as online edition)
- Korea Today (Onŭnŭi Chosŏn) (in English, Russian, Chinese, French, Spanish and Arabic)
- Kymsugansan (Kŭmsugangsan) (in Russian and Korean)
- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (Chosŏn) (in English, Russian, Chinese, French and Korean)
- Foreign Trade (Chosŏnŭi muyŏk) (in English, Russian, Chinese, French, Spanish and Japanese)
The publishing house was founded on December 4, 1949. The publisher's oldest English-language publication in the Library of Congress dates from 1956. Brochures in German have been published since 1969. The publisher's oldest German-language publications in the catalog of the German National Library date from 1974.
The publisher does not use ISBNs for its publications . However, contrary to previous practice, since 2008 there has obviously been a beginning to assign an ISSN to periodically appearing publications . Sales abroad are carried out by the Korean Publications Exchange Association (KPEA) and the commercial Korea Publications Export & Import Corporation (KPEIC), each based in Pyongyang and z. T. over the Internet.
The Englishman Michael Harrold published a book in 2004 about his many years of work as a translator and proofreader at the publishing house from 1987.
