It is located in the North Korean city of Hŭngnam (incorporated into Hamhŭng in 2005), which is located in the Hamgyŏng-namdo province.

history

After production was started on a trial basis in 1954, factories were built between 1959 and 1961. Since then, the plant has been steadily expanded. For a long time the plant was the only producer of this fiber, Vinalon is still produced, processed and used exclusively in North Korea. These circumstances are used for propaganda purposes for the Chuch'e ideology . In P'y Sngan-namdo there is still the Vinalon Sunch'ŏn plant .

Due to the stagnating economy in North Korea , the plant was shut down around 1994 and reopened in early 2010.

Products

The only product is the chemical fiber Vinalon; anthracite coal and lime are used as raw materials . Usually clothing, filling material or rope is made from the finished fiber.
