Plan (own spelling: PLAN) is one of the most important literary and cultural magazines that were founded in Austria after the Second World War . Although the magazine only existed from October 1945 to the beginning of 1948 with a total of 18 issues in 2 years (with the exception of three issues that were published in 1938), it occupies a special place in Austrian literary history. Here are z. B. the debuts of Ilse Aichinger , Friederike Mayröcker , Milo Dor and Hans Heinz Hahnl . Even Paul Celan published several poems in the last issue.

history

The publisher Otto Basil (1901–1983) and his editors introduced the Austrian public to art movements that were forbidden under National Socialism , especially Surrealism . Artists such as Ernst Fuchs , Edgar Jené , Fritz Wotruba , Susanne Wenger and Albert Paris Gütersloh were printed.

The plan is characterized by striving for a better future without neglecting to grapple with the past. Questions of moral responsibility were asked primarily on the basis of people like Josef Nadler , Josef Weinheber and Arnolt Bronnen .

Contact with emigrants such as Erich Fried , Theodor Kramer , Josef Kalmer and Ernst Waldinger was sought and texts from them were printed.

The appearance of the magazine is similar to that of Karl Kraus ' torch , which was the model for Otto Basil. The acidic paper and the economical design of the notebooks show the material hardship of the immediate post-war period .
