Vincas Kudirka Monument

The Vincas Kudirka Square (lit. Vinco Kudirkos aikštė ) is since the 19th century existing space in Lithuania's capital Vilnius . It is located in the city center, on Gedimino prospektas and Vilnius street. , to the Government of Lithuania . The square is 1.4 hectares.

history

The territory was located on the outskirts of Vilnius in the Middle Ages. From 1836 it was called St. George's Square ( Šv. Jurgio aikštė ). In 1865, an orthodox chapel was built by order of M. Muravyov . This was dismantled in 1919 and a water fountain monument was set up for Eliza Orzeszkowa . In 1950 the monument to Ivan Danilowitsch Tschernjachowski was built . In 1976 the square was reconstructed. From 1989 he was Savivaldybės aikštė and since 2007 Vincas Kudirka Square (the monument was built in 2009).
