Robert Lewin

Robert Lewin (born May 9, 1920 in New York City , † August 28, 2004 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

Lewin graduated from Yale University and served in the US Army during World War II . In the course of this he was also involved in fighting in Italy . Based on his experiences during this time, he wrote a screenplay, which was filmed in the 1950s under the title A Shredded Life . At the Oscar ceremony in 1957 Lewin was for his work in the category Best Original Screenplay for the Oscar nominated. It was not until the 1960s that he continued his career as a screenwriter and was mainly involved in numerous series, including Daktari , Kung Fu and Raumschiff Enterprise - The Next Century . He had also been involved in the latter as a producer in 1987/1988.

Lewin had worked as a reporter immediately after the war and then was involved in a public relations company. During his time as a screenwriter, he was involved in around 30 film and television productions, most recently in 1988. The Writers Guild of America honored him with the WGA Award in 1969 and 1970. In 1979 he was nominated for an Emmy in his capacity as a producer with his participation in the series The Paper Chase .

In 1962 he directed his first and only feature film, Third of a Man .

Lewin died of complications with lung cancer.
