Vincenzo Torriani

Vincenzo Torriani (born September 17, 1918 in Novate Milanese ; † April 24, 1996 in Milan ) was race director of the Giro d'Italia from 1949 as the successor to Armando Cougnet .

Life

Vincenzo Torriani had been Cougnet's assistant at the Giro since 1946. Torriani steered the fortunes of the Giro until 1992, supported since 1989 by his successor Carmine Castellano . As the patron of the Giro, Torriani was always on the lookout for innovative ideas. For example, he introduced team time trials at the Giro.
