Armando Cougnet (born January 20, 1880 in Nice , † December 14, 1959 in Milan ) was a journalist and race director of the Giro d'Italia until 1948 .

Cougnet was the editor-in-chief of the cycling website of Gazzetta dello Sport . Together with the editor of the Gazzetta Eugenio Camillo Costamagna and the editor Tullo Morgagni, he initiated the first Giro. From the early beginnings of the Giro d'Italia until 1948, he was a key figure in the Giro and was considered the actual organizer of the event. The serial winner Alfredo Binda , who won the Giro five times between 1925 and 1933, is said to have paid out the victory bonus in 1930 so that he would not take part in the tour that year and the excitement of the Giro was maintained.

He was succeeded as race director in 1949 by Vincenzo Torriani .
