Virgilio Fossati
Virgilio Fossati (born September 12, 1889 in Milan , Italy , † 1918 ) was an Italian football player and coach .
Virgilio Fossati was born in Milan in 1889. As a player, he played 97 games for Inter Milan from 1909 to 1915 , in which he scored four goals. In 1910 he won the Italian championship, the Scudetto, with Inter Milan . So it came about that Fossati became Inter's first captain; at the same time he was the first player who also played in the Italian national football team. Here he was used twelve times and scored one goal. Between 1909 and 1915, Fossati was also the first coach in the club's history.
However, his career ended abruptly. Virgilio Fossati was killed in a battle between Italian and Austrian troops in 1918 during the First World War . His brother Giuseppe (* 1894) also played for Inter Milan.
