Viscount Doneraile is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of Ireland .

The Viscounts' namesake family seat was Doneraile Court in Doneraile in County Cork until 1969 .

Awards and subordinate titles

For the first time the title Viscount Doneraile , in the County of Cork, was bestowed on June 23, 1703 the politician Arthur St Leger . He was from 1692 to 1693 MP in the Irish House of Commons . Along with the Viscount dignity , he was awarded the subordinate title of Baron Kilmayden , in the County of Waterford . The titles expired with the childless death of the 4th Viscount on April 16, 1767.

The son of the last Viscount's sister, St Leger Aldworth , was then MP for Doneraille. He inherited his property and lands and changed his surname to St Leger on May 9, 1767. On July 2, 1776 he was given the title of Baron Doneraile , of Doneraile in the County of Corke, and on June 22, 1785, the title Viscount Doneraile , of Doneraile in the County of Cork, was newly created. Today's title holder has been his descendant Richard St Leger as the 10th Viscount since 1983 .
