Viscount Exmouth
Viscount Exmouth , of Canonteign in the County of Devon , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created on December 10, 1816 for Edward Pellew, 1st Baron Exmouth . He was an important naval commander of his time and had particularly successfully fought the pirates on the Barbarian Coast. His family produced many famous Royal Navy officers .
Subordinate title
The first Viscount was already on March 18, 1796 in the Baronetage of Great Britain to the Baronet , of Treverry in the County of Cornwall , and on June 1, 1814 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom to the Baron Exmouth , of Canonteign in the County of Devon. Both titles are listed as subordinate titles by the respective Viscount.
