Viscount Kilsyth

Viscount Kilsyth was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland .

The Viscount family seat was Kilsyth Castle near Kilsyth in what is now North Lanarkshire .

Award and history of the title

The title was created on August 17, 1661 by King Charles II for the royalist Sir James Livingstone of Barncloich . Together with the Viscount title he was awarded the subordinate title Lord Campsie .

His younger son, the 3rd Viscount, took part in the Jacobite revolt of 1715, fought in the Battle of Sheriffmuir and fled into exile in April 1716. He was ostracized for treason and his titles and lands were confiscated from the Crown.
