Earl of Kingston
Earl of Kingston is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland .
Award
The title was created on August 25, 1768 for Edward King, 1st Viscount Kingsborough .
As early as 1755 he had inherited the title of 5th Baronet, of Boyle Abbey in the County of Roscommon , from his older brother Robert King, 1st Baron Kingsborough , which was created for an ancestor on September 27, 1682 in the Baronetage of Ireland. In addition, he was on July 13, 1764 to Baron Kingston , of Rockingham in the County of Roscommon, and on November 15, 1766 to the Viscount Kingsborough , of Kingsborough in the County of Sligo , was raised; both titles belong to the Peerage of Ireland.
His grandson, the 3rd Earl, was given the title Baron Kingston , of Mitchelstown in the County of Cork on July 17, 1821 . This title belonged to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and, unlike the Irish titles, was associated with a seat in the British House of Lords . This title expired with the childless death of the 5th Earl on September 8, 1869. The Earldom and the other titles fell to his cousin Robert King, 2nd Viscount Lorton , who was born in 1854 by his father Robert King (1773-1854), the second son the 3rd Earl, inherited the titles Viscount Lorton , of Boyle in the County of Roscommon, and Baron Erris , of Boyle in the County of Roscommon, which he received on May 28, 1806 and December 29, 1800 in the Peerage of Ireland had been awarded. Since then, both titles have also been subordinate to the Earldom.
The 8th Earl took the surname King-Tenison on March 10, 1883 on the occasion of his wedding with royal license .
Today's title holder is his descendant Robert King-Tenison as 12th Earl.
