Baron Kingston
Baron Kingston is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of Ireland and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Awards
For the first time, the title Baron Kingston , of Kingston in the County of Dublin , was created for Sir John King on September 4, 1660 in the Peerage of Ireland . The title expired on the death of his grandson, the 4th baron, on December 26, 1761, who left no male descendants.
Three years later, on July 13, 1764, in the Peerage of Ireland, the title Baron Kingston , of Rockingham in the County of Roscommon , was recreated for Sir Edward King, 5th Baronet . He was a descendant of the brother of the 1st Baron first bestowal and had already held the title Baronet , of Boyle Abbey in the County of Roscommon, created in 1682 in the Baronetage of Ireland since 1755 . In the Peerage of Ireland he was also elevated to Viscount Kingsborough on November 15, 1766 , of Kingsborough in the County of Sligo and on August 25, 1768 to Earl of Kingston .
His grandson, the 3rd Earl, was given the title Baron Kingston , of Mitchelstown in the County of Cork on July 17, 1821 . This title belonged to the Peerage of the United Kingdom and, unlike the Irish titles, was associated with a seat in the British House of Lords . This title expired with the childless death of the 5th Earl on September 8, 1869. The Earldom and the other titles fell to his cousin Robert King, 2nd Viscount Lorton , who was born in 1854 by his father Robert King (1773-1854), the second son the 3rd Earl, inherited the titles Viscount Lorton , of Boyle in the County of Roscommon, and Baron Erris , of Boyle in the County of Roscommon, which he received on May 28, 1806 and December 29, 1800 in the Peerage of Ireland had been awarded. Since then, both titles have also been subordinate to the Earldom.
