Earl of Snowdon
Earl of Snowdon is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom , named after Snowdon , the highest mountain in Wales .
Award, subordinate and other titles
The title was awarded on October 6, 1961 to the photographer and then-husband of Princess Margaret , Antony Armstrong-Jones . Along with the earliest title , he was awarded the subordinate title Viscount Linley , of Nymans in the County of Sussex , who also belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom. This title is used as a courtesy title by the title heir .
The 1st Earl was raised to Life Peer on November 16, 1999 as Baron Armstrong-Jones , of Nymans in the County of West Sussex , whereby he retained his seat in the House of Lords despite the reform of the House of Lords in 1999 .
