William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne

Viscount Melbourne , of Kilmore in the County of Cavan , was a hereditary title in the Peerage of Ireland .

The Viscounts' ancestral home was Melbourne Hall in Derbyshire .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on December 16, 1781 for MP Peniston Lamb, 1st Baron Melbourne .

In 1768 he had inherited from his father the title of Baronet , of Brocket Hall in the County of Hertford , which had been given to him in 1755 in the Baronetage of Great Britain. On June 8, 1770 he had been raised in the Peerage of Ireland to Baron Melbourne , of Kilmore in the County of Cavan.

On August 11, 1815, he was awarded the title Baron Melbourne , of Melbourne in the County of Derby, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . With this title, in contrast to his Irish titles, a hereditary seat in the House of Lords was connected.

The later 3rd Viscount, the younger brother of the 2nd Viscount, was awarded the title Baron Beauvale , of Beauvale in the County of Nottingham , on April 20, 1839 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

All named titles expired with the childless death of the 3rd Viscount on January 29, 1853.
