Viscount of Annand
Viscount of Annand was a hereditary British title of nobility awarded three times in the Peerage of Scotland .
Awards
The title was created on June 28, 1622 for the courtier Sir John Murray . Together with the Viscountcy he was awarded the subordinate title of Lord Murray of Lochmaben . On June 28, 1622, he was also raised to Earl of Annandale and Lord Murray of Tynningham , also in the Peerage of Scotland . His son, the 2nd Earl, inherited the titles 3rd Viscount of Stormont and 3rd Lord Scone in 1642 due to a special inheritance regulation . When he died on December 28, 1658, the Earldom Annandale, the Viscountcy Annand and the Lordships Murray of Lochmaben and Murray of Tynningham went out. The remaining titles fell due to special inheritance to his relative David Murray, 2nd Lord Balvaird .
In the second bestowal, the title was awarded on February 13, 1661 to James Johnstone, 2nd Earl of Hartfell , together with the other titles Earl of Annandale and Hartfell and Lord Johnstone, of Lochwood, Lochmaben, Moffatdale and Evandale . In return, he renounced his previous titles, in particular the Earldom of Hartfell . His son, the 2nd Earl, was raised to Marquess of Annandale on June 24, 1701 . Together with the Marquessate he was awarded the subordinate titles Earl of Hartfell and Lord Johnstone of Lochwood, Lochmaben, Moffatdale and Evandale , and again, in the third award, the title Viscount of Annand . The titles expired with the death of the 3rd Marquess on April 29, 1792.
