The vistdalitt gabbro or vistdalitt is a gabbro from the deposit in the municipality of Molde in the province of Møre og Romsdal , Norway .

Rock description and mineral inventory

Visdalitt gabbro is a typical gabbro: it is relatively dark, large-grained, black to deep green and consists of plagioclase , pyroxene , amphibole and olivine .

Occurrence and use

In 1928 the stone was discovered in Vistdal and mining began in 1931. Since 2004 a family company has been mining this natural stone.

Vistdalitt is used for tombstones, facade cladding, countertops and vanities, tiles, floor and stair coverings. Vistdalitt gabbro was installed on the facade and in the interior of the Henie Onstad Art Center in Oslo and the sculpture Trollstigveien was made in this stone by the sculptor Hagbart Sollos .
