The PP-19-01 " Vitjas " ( Russian ПП-19-01 "Витязь" ) is a submachine gun made by the Russian manufacturer Ischmasch . It was designed in order to be able to conduct the firefight in locally cramped conditions, for example in house-to-house combat or from inside vehicles. The weapon is mainly used by the OMON special unit as well as by other special forces in the police and the secret service, where the previous model, the PP-19 Bison, could not really assert itself.

The PP-19-01 was developed from the PP-19 Bison at the request of the special unit "Vitjas" and was therefore given its nickname. As with the PP-19, many components of the weapon are the same as the AKS-74U assault rifle from the same manufacturer, which significantly shortened the training time. By using the 9 × 19 standard NATO ammunition , the weapon could be designed as a simple recoil loader with a mass lock. The weapon is capable of firing the much more powerful Russian armor-piercing ammunition of the 7N21 type in the same caliber. To compensate for the lower magazine capacity compared to the Bison , the reloading mechanism was designed so that two magazines can be easily connected to form a block. This variant replaces the improvised gluing of two magazines and speeds up the magazine change considerably. Additional aiming aids can be installed on an optional Picatinny rail .

The PP-19-01 SN is a variant of the PP-19-01 with an additional Picatinny rail and an additional safety lever on the left side of the lock housing. The cocking lever was moved to the left.
