Vivat! Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vivat! Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 103). It was first performed on October 3, 1851 in the Volksgarten in Vienna .

Remarks

The Quadrille was composed on the occasion of the celebration of the name day of Emperor Franz Joseph I and also premiered on this occasion. As you can already see from the title, Strauss brings musical cheers to the Kaiser. This quadrille thus also represented another attempt by the composer to get closer to the imperial family and to forget his earlier sympathies for the revolution of 1848 . His efforts were successful. As early as Mardi Gras in 1852 he was allowed to conduct dance music in the Hofburg . In 1863 he became court ball music director .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 6 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
