Vivian Harris

Vivian Harris (* 17th June 1978 in Georgetown , Guyana ) is a former Guyanese boxer in the Light Welterweight .

As an amateur, Harris won the New York Golden Gloves in 1997 and participated in the National Golden Gloves in 1997. His record was 45 wins (23 by knockout ) with 5 losses.

In 1997 he made his professional debut when he knocked Leviticus Long in the first round. On October 19, 2002, he defeated the Cuban Diosbelys Hurtado by technical knockout in round 2 and thereby became regular world champion of the WBA . He defended the title against Souleymane M'baye and twice against Oktay Urkal before losing it to Carlos Maussa in a knockout loss in June 2005 . In July 2006, he defeated Stevie Johnston . In September 2007 he lost to Junior Witter in the fight for the WBC title by knockout.

In 2010 and 2011 he lost to Lucas Matthysse , Victor Ortiz and Jessie Vargas, respectively .
