Vladas Jurgutis

Vladas Jurgutis (born November 5, 1885 in Joskaudai , Palanga region , Kurland Governorate , Russian Empire , † January 9, 1966 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian Catholic clergyman and politician .

Life

In 1902 he graduated from the Progymnasium Palanga, in 1906 he studied at the Kaunas seminary , and in 1910 the master's degree in theology at the Peterburg Spiritual Academy . From 1910 to 1913 he studied economics at the University of Munich . From 1918 he was prefect at the seminary in Kaunas and from 1918 to 1922 professor .

In the 7th government of Lithuania, headed by Ernestas Galvanauskas , Jurgutis was Foreign Minister of Lithuania and a member of the Seimas in 1922 . From 1922 to 1929 he was head of Lietuvos Bankas . From 1925 he taught at the University of Lithuania . In 1943 Jurgutis was brought to the Stutthof concentration camp along with the other 46 intellectuals from Lithuania for criticizing German politics . In 1945 he returned to Lithuania . From 1940 Jurgutis taught at the Faculty of Economics of Vilnius University , Dean.
