Vladimir Medar (* 1923 in Zagreb ; † May 17, 1978 in Bela Crkva , Yugoslavia ) was a Yugoslav actor who worked as a supporting actor in over 50 mostly international film productions.

Life

Vladimir Medar played the leading role of Taras Bulba in Ferdinando Baldi's Italian adventure film The Cossacks Come (1963) and important supporting roles in around 50 films after several productions in his home country . He also played under the names Alex Medar, Vlado Medar and Medar Vladimir.

Vladimir Medar is probably best known in German-speaking countries through his participation in the Winnetou films, where he appeared several times in supporting roles. The gray-bearded mime with the imposing figure mostly represented curious, good-natured characters who loosened up the action with humorous interludes - as the saloon host in Der Schatz im Silbersee (1962), as Uncle Ben in Old Surehand Part 1 (1965) or as Caleb in Winnetou and his friend Old Firehand (1966). He only played a villain in Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of the Dead (1968) in the role of the seedy sheriff. In addition, he was also in the German films ... and forever pop the robbers (1962) as Kramer Krummhändl and Die Schlangengrube und das Pendel (1967).

After the end of the Karl May wave, Medar mainly appeared in Yugoslav TV productions until his death.
