Vladimir Zwass

Vladimir Zwass (born February 3, 1946 ) is an American business information scientist and Distinguished Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University .

Zwass grew up as the son of the economist Adam Zwass in Warsaw and Moscow, studied in Moscow, where he obtained a degree in electronics engineering. In 1969 he left Moscow and then Warsaw with his family, first working in Vienna for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and moving to the USA in 1970. There he studied at Columbia University , where he obtained his PhD in computer science.

He has been with Fairleigh Dickinson University since 1975 . As part of his work, he founded the Journal of Management Information Systems in 1984 , which is considered one of the three leading scientific publications in the world in this field. Among his most successful books to date are Introduction to Computer Science and Management Information Systems . The latter is used as a teaching material at Harvard University , Cornell University , Rutgers University and more than 100 other universities and colleges.

Zwass wrote the articles in the Encyclopædia Britannica on computer science and electronic commerce . In 1996 he founded the International Journal of Electronic Commerce , which is currently ranked as the world's leading publication in this field.
