The bird thrower spanner ( Lomaspilis marginata ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the spanner family (Geometridae). It is also known as the hem tensioner , black rim tensioner or black rim harlequin .
features
The bird thrower is a relatively small moth with a wingspan of 30 to 38 millimeters. He is one of the few tensioners who are also active during the day. The wing drawing is characteristic and cannot be confused with any other butterfly. The wings have a white, sometimes yellowish basic color and are lined with dark brown to almost black. The stain pattern of the hem is variable. The appearance is reminiscent of bird droppings and is used for camouflage.

The birdweed spanner is common in its areas of distribution, it can be observed in Central and Northern Europe as well as in the deciduous forest zone of Asia.
Way of life
Caterpillar forage plants include poplar ( Populus spec.), Willow ( Salix spec.), Birch ( Betula spec.), Hazel ( Corylus spec.). The species overwinters in the ground as a pupa.
Flight and caterpillar times
Two generations are formed, flying from spring to midsummer. Only one generation appears at higher altitudes.
