Vojislav Marković

Vojislav Marković (* 1940 in Macedonia ; † August 20, 2005 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav table tennis player who was one of the best in Europe in the 1960s and won the European Championship twice.

Career

Vojislav Marković achieved his first international success at the European Youth Championships in Opatija in 1956, where he was European champion with Zeljko Hrbud in the double competition. In the adult category, he won 14 titles at national Yugoslav championships. From 1956 to 1966 he was nominated 130 times for the national team.

From 1959 to 1965 Marković took part in four world championships . He and the Yugoslav team came in fourth or fifth every time. He was also represented at four European championships , namely 1960 , 1962 , 1964 and 1966 . He was most successful in 1962 in Berlin, where he was European champion in doubles with his compatriot Janez Teran and also won the title with the team. In mixed with Monique Alber , he won bronze. Two years later he helped the Yugoslav team to second place.

Marković took part in international German championships several times. Together with Janez Teran he won doubles in 1961/62, and they finished second for a year. In the ITTF world rankings , Marković was ranked tenth in 1959.

Private

Vojislav Marković's older brother Vladimir was also a national player and a World Cup participant. Vojislav had been married since 1964.
