Volker Harald Blumentritt (born June 16, 1946 in Jena ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and a former member of the German Bundestag.

Life and work

After attending the Polytechnic High School , Blumentritt completed an apprenticeship as a chef from 1963 to 1966 and then did his military service until 1969 . After that he worked in the profession he had learned, from 1974 at " Mitropa ". From 1990 to 2003 he was chairman of the works council of Mitropa AG at the Gera site and a member of the general works council.

Volker Blumentritt is married, lives separately and has two children.

Political party

Blumentritt joined the SPD in 1997. From 2002 to 2006 he was a member of the SPD state party council in Thuringia .

MP

Blumentritt has been a member of the Jena City Council since 1999 , and has been the local mayor of the Neulobeda district of Jena since 1998 .

From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Blumentritt was a directly elected member of the Bundestag constituency Gera - Jena - Saale-Holzland-Kreis , but was unable to get back into parliament in the 2009 Bundestag election. Most recently he was a member of the Bundestag Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. In December 2012, the SPD announced that Blumentritts was again nominated as a candidate for the Gera - Jena - Saale-Holzland-Kreis constituency for the 2013 federal election , but it failed again.
