Volker Kitz (* 1975 in Bensheim ) is a German non-fiction author and lawyer . His books came on Spiegel bestseller lists and have been translated into more than ten languages.

Career

Kitz studied law and psychology in Cologne and at New York University and received a doctorate in law.

He was active in research and teaching, including at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property , and published articles in international scientific journals. He has also written articles and essays for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the features section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Die Zeit, Die Welt and Der Spiegel. His books have been translated into over ten languages.

In 2011 he and Manuel Tusch published the book Psycho? Logical! Useful insights from everyday psychology, in which the authors explain psychological phenomena and make them usable for a wide audience. The book was on the Spiegel bestseller list paperback non-fiction for a total of 23 weeks .

In his book I am what I am allowed to do: How justice comes into law - and what you have to do with it, published in 2016, Kitz explains "the big questions of law and justice" based on the fundamental judgments of the Federal Constitutional Court. Deutschlandfunk Kultur described the book as "a journey into the history of the Federal Republic, to the limits of philosophy and natural sciences". The book reached number 17 on the Spiegel bestseller list paperback non-fiction .

In his 2017 book Feierabend! Why you don't have to be passionate about your job , Kitz advocates more realistic expectations of your own profession. Fulfillment at work does not have to be the measure of all things. Rather, reality - income and ability based on routine - is justified. He wants to "focus on those who do their job well instead of just finding it good". In a television interview, he said, “Would you like to fly with a pilot who says this flight is a challenge or have a blood drawn from a doctor who says this is a challenge for me? We all want to deal with people who do their job routinely. ”In the first week after publication, the book was ranked 12th in the Spiegel bestseller list paperback non-fiction and then reached number 9.
