The Herman Melville House , also known as Arrowhead , is a historically significant building in Pittsfield , Berkshire County , Massachusetts . From 1850 to 1863 it was the home of Herman Melville , where he wrote the novel Moby-Dick , among other things . The Herman Melville House is a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places .

The building was built by David Bush in the 1780s and was family owned until 1844.
Building description
The house is two and a half stories high and the facade is paneled.
