Volker Schulze

Volker Schulze (born October 20, 1939 in Gevelsberg , Westphalia) is a German specialist journalist, historian and book author.

Life

After graduating from high school in Gevelsberg in 1960, Schulze volunteered for a year at the Gevelsberger Zeitung / Ennepetaler Zeitung; then he continued his editorial traineeship while studying. He then studied history, journalism, German studies and public law in Frankfurt am Main , Münster and Dortmund until 1968. Volker Schulze lives in Meckenheim near Bonn. He is married to the journalist Christine Schulze and has three grown daughters.

Professional work

Parallel to his studies, Schulze initially worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Journalism at the University of Münster, from 1965 to 1966 as a student editor at Semesterspiegel , then as a freelance journalist and editor for newspapers in the Ruhr area. In 1969 he moved to the office of the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers (BDZV), where he took over the management of the press office. Further positions within the BDZV: from 1976 to 1980 managing director of the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia, from 1980 to 1995 managing director and then until 2005 managing director of the BDZV.

The majority of his media studies, media practical and historical publications fall from 1970 to 2005. After completing his part- time doctorate at the University of Dortmund as Dr. phil. (1993) on a media policy topic, Schulze had lectureships at the universities of Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Berlin. For the BDZV and its regional associations, Schulze set up the Vocational Training Academy for German newspaper publishers . Its aim is to provide editorial volunteers with expert advice and to train journalists. Part of the teaching material was created by ZV Zeitungsverlag GmbH, which Schulze was managing director until 2002.

Outside employment

Schulze was honorary managing director of the board of trustees for the Theodor Wolff Prize , the journalist prize of the German daily newspapers , for almost 20 years . In 2000 he was appointed to the jury of the journalist award “Pro Ehrenamt” of the city of Neuss, to which he still belongs. From 2006 to 2012, Schulze was a member of the jury of the “Transparency - Price for Citizen and Consumer Proximity” of the Federal Association of German Advertising Papers.

Volker Schulze is a member of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies , the Society of Catholic Publicists and the Rotary Club Bonn-Rheinbach.

Awards

In 1995 Schulze received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
