Agostino Masucci
Agostino Masucci (born August 29, 1690 in Rome ; † October 19, 1768 there ) was an Italian history painter , portrait painter and draftsman .
Life
Masucci was the son of Francesco Massucci and his wife Margherita (nee Simonetti). He was initially a student of Andrea Procaccini (1671–1734), then the last student of Carlo Maratta . He was artistically influenced by Guido Reni and Raffael . In his painting he was the pioneer of a preliminary stage of classicism , which flourished in Rome as early as the 1720/1730s, and of a new type of portraiture. His sponsor was the Spanish queen and painter Isabel de Farnesio . In 1724 he became a member of the Academy of San Luca in Rome. One of his works represented Saint Bonnaventure in Urbino.
His students included Pompeo Batoni , Gavin Hamilton and Johann Zoffany as well as the two brothers Giuseppe and Stefano Pozzi .
His son was the painter Lorenzo Masucci (1726–1785).
