Volker Schweizer

Volker Bernhard Schweizer (* 1940 in Stuttgart ) is a German geologist and paleontologist.

He studied geology and palaeontology in Stuttgart with a doctorate in 1968, completed his habilitation in 1973 in Heidelberg ( The distribution of main and trace elements in the Carixium (Lower Schwarzjuramergel, Lias gamma) in southern Germany, a contribution to the geochemistry of carbonatic sediments ) and was a professor in 1980 until his retirement Professor at the Geological-Paleontological Institute of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

From him comes a geological guide to the Kraichgau and southern Odenwald and a dictionary of geology. He also published a number of English-language works in German editions, such as the Introduction to Geology (General Geology, Spectrum Academic Publishing House) by Raymond Siever and Frank Press (a standard work) and the Historical Geology by Steven M. Stanley . Among other things, he dealt with sedimentology and stratigraphy of shell limestone.

He works at the Geological State Office of Baden-Württemberg (including the geological map of Messstetten ).
