Volker Treier (born August 6, 1969 in Creglingen ) is a German economist. He is the deputy chief executive of the DIHK . Since 2014 he has also been responsible for the international, European Union and foreign chambers of commerce at the DIHK. Before that he was DIHK chief economist.

From 1990 onwards, Treier completed a degree in economics in Bamberg and Budapest. He then obtained a doctorate in Dr. rer. pole. in Bamberg on the subject of "Fiscal Competition in Central and Eastern Europe: Reality or Fiction?" and worked until 2002 as a research assistant at the Chair of Public Finance at the University of Bamberg and as a project member on the DAAD project "Internationalization of the Curriculum in European Economics Bamberg-Budapest-Tirana-Sarajevo". From 1998 to 2002 Treier was a part-time lecturer for economics and business administration at the Chamber of Commerce in Upper Franconia.

In 2006/2007 Treier was head of the department "Economic and Growth Policy, Economic Analysis, Economic Policy Company Surveys" and representative for the special task "European Policy Controlling" at the DIHK, from 2008 to 2010 managing director of the DIHK Society for Vocational Education, Organization for the promotion of the IHK Further education mbH in Bonn as well as deputy head of the DIHK division "Vocational Education and Training Policy" and from 2011 to 2014 head of the DIHK division "Economic Policy, SMEs, Innovation" and DIHK chief economist.

Since 2014, Treier has been deputy general manager and head of the International / AHK division, responsible for coordinating the network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad
