The Volksbad ( Danish Folkets Bad ) in Flensburg is a former public bath in the classic sense, which was built in 1900 on the Schiffbrücke (Schiffbrücke 67) at the Flensburg harbor near the Nordertor .

Originally it actually served the purpose of serving the people of Flensburg as a personal hygiene facility. However, in the course of advancing industrialization and urban modernization , the Volksbad lost its original function, as more and more apartments were equipped with their own bathroom.

The regular bathing operation was stopped in the 1960s.

Since 1981 the building has been used as a socio-cultural center in which concerts, parties and theater performances take place. Among other things, it has become a center of the north German gay and lesbian scene through the regular gay and lesbian discotheques.

The Danish cultural center Aktivitetshuset in the Volksbad, located on Norderstrasse , is organizing two German-Danish festivals . Since the early 1990s, there have been invitations to the annual Julerock at Christmas time , where around five to eight local heroes perform. The Aktivitetshuset has also held the New Stars Contest there every one to two years in June since the mid-2000s . While the audience award for the best live music is determined by the audience, an expert jury selects a “new star”.
