history

In 1884 the citizens of Olfen decided to lay the foundation stone for a local savings and loan association. It was founded in Seppenrade in 1893. Two years later, the local savings and loan association was launched in Lüdinghausen.

The Lüdinghauser Fund initially had 132 members from the municipalities of the city of Lüdinghausen and Lüdinghausen-Land, which were still separate at the time. The district administrator of the Lüdinghausen district saw the local cooperative as a competitor to the Kreissparkasse created in 1848 and tried to limit the municipal loan business. But the upper president in Münster lifted the relevant order again. The customers, especially in the credit area, were mainly craftsmen and farmers in all three locations. Among the savers, the group of day laborers, servants and maids was represented with about 50 percent.

Even then, the aim was to promote the interests of members and customers. A regional universal bank developed from a pure savings and loan granting institute. Accordingly, it renamed Volksbank Lüdinghausen eG in 1974.

In 1999 the Lüdinghauser credit institute merged with Volksbank Olfen. In 2013 it merged with Volksbank Seppenrade.

In 2018 Volksbank Lüdinghausen-Olfen eG had 4 branches in Lüdinghausen, Olfen and Seppenrade as well as 2 self-service centers.
